I have over 42 years of professional experience and demonstrated public service. I am the son of a teacher and a police officer, who instilled in me strong moral values and a passion for education.
I began my career as a cadet at the US Air Force Academy, where I solidified values of integrity, hard work, service before self, and excellence that have sustained me ever since. I completed the academy program as a distinguished graduate, subsequently attending pilot training, F-15 upgrade, and the USAF F-15 Fighter Weapons School.
In my Air Force career I commanded at flight, squadron, and wing levels, and performed staff assignments in Washington DC and Virginia.
Following my Air Force career, my family and I returned to the Gulf Coast where I enjoyed a successful civilian career as a test engineer, mathematician, and subject matter expert in operations analysis and modeling & simulation, supporting the Eglin AFB weapons development enterprise.
I also served in executive level management as a director leading a department supporting the Air Force’s 96th Test Wing.
I also have experience as a university instructor in masters and doctoral programs, both in a traditional, face-to-face setting and online. I have performed as a private consultant in strategic thinking, vision, and planning; organizational culture and dynamics; and analytics.
I have been a resident of Niceville since 1988. My wife of more than 41 years, Carolyn McAllister, is the current principal of James E. Plew Elementary School. We raised two now married children, both of whom are products of the Okaloosa County School District.
I was blessed with a passion for education, earning a PhD in Applied Management and Operations Research, an MEA in Engineering Administration, an MA in History, and a BS in Mathematics and Operations Research. I am also a graduate of the Air Force Command and Staff College, the Air War College, and the National War College.
I have an extensive record of public service, volunteering, and community involvement. I am a past president of the Niceville High School Booster Club, a volunteer coach for the Niceville High School varsity baseball program, a former member of the School Advisory Council for Ruckel Middle School, a volunteer mentor in multiple elementary schools, a youth sports coach, and a member of the Niceville-Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce.
Based on public law and policy, the school board is the people’s direct link to the leadership, management, and oversight of THEIR school system. The school board is the education watchdog for the community—not an extension of the school district, the district staff, or the superintendent.
Our students’ education is not a line item on the school board’s agenda—it is the only item. Student safety is the highest priority. I believe that the board and its members must be accessible to the public and accountable for the performance of their schools, ensuring that students get the best education for the tax dollars spent.
Understanding its purpose, here is my vision for our schoolboard:
A board, trusted by and responsive to the citizens of Okaloosa County, overseeing a public school system that provides world-class education in a safe and secure environment, leading ALL students to be career- or college-ready, while efficiently using the taxpayer’s resources.Read More About My Values and Imperatives
